First Round Of Gustav Evacuees Heading Home

FORT SMITH, Ark. -- Hurricane Gustav evacuees will start boarding buses at 8 p.m. on Friday. Capt. Chris Heathscott, of the Arkansas National Guard, said 16 buses will be leave Fort Chaffee and make the 10 hour drive to New Orleans."Once this first group goes out tonight, we'll look at pushing more out on Saturday and Sunday," said Heathscott. "And possibly even into Monday if required."Heathscott said he's still waiting on FEMA officials to give confirmation on how many airplanes will assist with the return travel plans.
Bus priority will go to single males then single females, followed by families with older children. Heathscott said airplanes will be reserved for those with medical needs, the elderly and families with young children.Heathscott said 12 additional buses will be arriving at Fort Chaffee Friday evening to assist with Saturday's travel plans.
