OKLAHOMA CITY -- Workers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta were expected to arrive in Oklahoma Saturday to help investigate a widespread E. coli outbreak. The outbreak of a rare strain of toxin-producing E. coli has made 206 people sick and killed one man. Most of those who became ill ate at the Country Cottage restaurant in Locust Grove, a town about 50 miles east of Tulsa.Dr. Kristy Bradley, the state's epidemiologist, said officials are only seeing just a trickle of new cases being identified, indicating the spread of the outbreak has been stopped.
Bradley said the number of people hospitalized with bloody diarrhea, stomach cramps and vomiting in connection with the outbreak dropped to about 20 yesterday. That's down from a previous high of 50.
