NCAA Game Summary - UL-Monroe At Arkansas

POSTED: 11:22 pm CDT September 6, 2008

(Sports Network) - A touchdown reception by D.J. Williams with just over a minute to play in regulation allowed the Arkansas Razorbacks to steal a 28-27 victory from the Warhawks of UL-Monroe in non-conference play at War Memorial Stadium.

Williams finished up the contest with a pair of touchdowns for the Razorbacks (2-0) as they squeezed out their second straight win to start the 2008 campaign.

Although he's just a redshirt freshman, wideout Anthony McCall kept the visitors close with a pair of touchdown receptions of his own. Quarterback Kinsmon Lancaster ended the contest 23-of-39 for 270 yards for the Warhawks (0-2).

Following a scoreless first quarter, Arkansas scored the first points of the contest when Michael Smith hit the end zone on a 13-yard run to give the home team a 6-0 advantage after a failed PAT.

ULM then ripped off 24 unanswered points, beginning with McCall's first TD of the game on a one-yard reception. Jeremy Gener then put the Warhawks ahead with a 20-yard field goal, followed by McCall's 33-yard TD catch to start the third period.

Gary Frazier capped a quick four-play, 53-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run to push the Louisiana-Monroe lead to 24-6.

Williams, who finished with five catches for a team-best 124 yards for the Hogs, collected an eight-yard touchdown from Casey Dick at the 2:13 mark of the third. Dick converted 22-of-34 passing for 323 yards and survived four sacks along the way.

A 40-yard field goal by Gener provided UL-Monroe with a 27-14 advantage just over two minutes into the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough to hold off Arkansas.

Smith's four-yard TD run cut the deficit to six points, 27-21, leaving Williams and kicker Shay Haddock to lock up the one-point win for the Razorbacks.

The Warhawks gave themselves a chance for the victory in the waning moments, but a 45-yard field goal try by Gener failed to hit the mark and sent UL- Monroe packing in the one-point decision.
